Over 40 years ago, a group of 37 civic minded men in Upland decided to join together and form a Kiwanis service club that met for breakfast instead of lunch. Thus was born the KIWANIS CLUB OF UPLAND-FOOTHILL. Three of the original charter members remain active today, Frank Aglio, Bill Landecena, and Hal Schliemann
The club is comprised of 44 civic minded Men and Women ranging in age from 30 years old up to 83. Our average age is in the low 50’s.
This is not your grandfathers club and no we don’t wear funny hats or have a secret handshake!
Over the years the club has conducted a wide variety of community service activities our current projects include:
Awards and scholarships for outstanding students in our community
Sponsorship of junior and high school service clubs
Blood Donor drives
Easter Egg Hunt
July 4th Fireworks Grill & Snack bar
Concerts in the park (originally called Mosquito Serenade) for 29 years
Prayer Breakfast for 23 years
Serving food for Competitors of Wheel Chair Tennis
Shoes For Kids (hundreds of pairs each year)
Sponsorship of numerous youth sports teams
Financial support of many community organizations
Flagpoles (from 1986 LA Olympics) at the Madonna statue, Euclid and Foothill
US Flag installations on Euclid Avenue
Serviceman Banners on Mountain Ave. recognizing persons in the US Military
To fund these services we conduct several fund raisers through out the year, ranging from a highly successful golf tournament to selling See’s Candy. Much of the money raised each year comes from the generous support of our members and like minded members of the community.
If you are one of those and have sponsored or donated in the past, THANK YOU!
